Olive and Cream Cheese Tea Sandwiches
Long before fancy charcuterie boards became fashionable, hostesses welcomed guests with simple tea sandwiches like these. The combination of cream cheese, olives, and pimientos was a staple of bridge clubs, church socials, and afternoon gatherings throughout much of the twentieth century.
Recipe makes 24 tea sandwiches
Whatcha Need
- 1 package (8 ounce) cream cheese, room temperature
- 1 jar (7 ounce) pimiento-stuffed green olives, finely chopped
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 3 tablespoons mayonnaise
- ¼ teaspoon garlic salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- 12 slices white bread
Whatcha Do
- In a medium bowl, combine the cream cheese, chopped olives, Worcestershire sauce, mayonnaise, garlic salt, and black pepper. Mix until well blended.
- Spread the mixture evenly onto 6 slices of bread. Top with the remaining bread slices.
- Trim the crusts from each sandwich and cut into quarters.
- Arrange the tea sandwiches on a platter. Garnish with watercress, if desired, and serve with a cup of your favorite tea.
