Oven Baked French Fries

Recipe make 4 servings

Whatcha Need

  • 3 tablespoons olive oil, divided
  • 2 pounds (3-4) Russet or Kennebec potatoes (peeling is optional)
  • 1½ teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon oregano or marjoram
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • Ketchup or your favorite dipping sauce (optional)

Whatcha Do

  1. Preheat oven to 450℉ and position a rack in the lower third. Brush a large rimmed baking sheet with 1½ tablespoons of the oil.
  2. Scrub the potatoes and peel if desired. Cut them into ¼-inch planks, then cut the planks into ¼-inch sticks. Place them in a large bowl of very hot tap water and let sit for 10 minutes.
  3. Using a spider or slotted spoon, carefully transfer the fries to towel-lined pan and dry them thoroughly.
  4. Place the potatoes in a clean bowl and drizzle with the remaining olive oil. Sprinkle with salt, garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, and black pepper. Toss to coat evenly.
  5. Spread the potatoes in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet, making sure they are not overcrowded.
  6. Roast in the lower third of the oven for 15 to 20 minutes, until the bottoms begin to turn golden. Remove the pan from the oven and, using a firm spatula, carefully loosen and turn the fries so they brown evenly.
  7. Return the pan to the oven and continue baking for an additional 5 to 10 minutes, until the fries are as golden and crisp to your liking.
  8. Serve with ketchup or your favorite dipping sauce.

Note

Store leftover in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Freezing is not recommended.

Reheat in a single layer on a baking sheet in a 400℉ oven for 5 to 8 minutes, watching careful to prevent over-browning.
