Oven Baked French Fries
Recipe make 4 servings
Whatcha Need
- 3 tablespoons olive oil, divided
- 2 pounds (3-4) Russet or Kennebec potatoes (peeling is optional)
- 1½ teaspoon kosher salt
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon oregano or marjoram
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- Ketchup or your favorite dipping sauce (optional)
Whatcha Do
- Preheat oven to 450℉ and position a rack in the lower third. Brush a large rimmed baking sheet with 1½ tablespoons of the oil.
- Scrub the potatoes and peel if desired. Cut them into ¼-inch planks, then cut the planks into ¼-inch sticks. Place them in a large bowl of very hot tap water and let sit for 10 minutes.
- Using a spider or slotted spoon, carefully transfer the fries to towel-lined pan and dry them thoroughly.
- Place the potatoes in a clean bowl and drizzle with the remaining olive oil. Sprinkle with salt, garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, and black pepper. Toss to coat evenly.
- Spread the potatoes in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet, making sure they are not overcrowded.
- Roast in the lower third of the oven for 15 to 20 minutes, until the bottoms begin to turn golden. Remove the pan from the oven and, using a firm spatula, carefully loosen and turn the fries so they brown evenly.
- Return the pan to the oven and continue baking for an additional 5 to 10 minutes, until the fries are as golden and crisp to your liking.
- Serve with ketchup or your favorite dipping sauce.
Note
Store leftover in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Freezing is not recommended.
Reheat in a single layer on a baking sheet in a 400℉ oven for 5 to 8 minutes, watching careful to prevent over-browning.
