In-N-Out Double Double Burger
If you don’t happen to live near an In-N-Out burger restaurant, but would like to taste their famous burger, this recipe will come very close to giving you that experience. It must be pointed out that one of the keys to the In-N-Out burger is their special sauce. So it's imperative that you dress your Double Double clone with the sauce as described below.
Recipe Makes 1 Burger
Whatcha Need:
For the Special Sauce:
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 2 Tablespoons ketchup
- 1 Tablespoon white vinegar
- 2 teaspoons sugar
- 2 teaspoons sweet pickle relish
- 2 teaspoons finely minced white onion
- dash of salt
- dash of pepper
For the Burger:
- 1 hamburger bun (toasted)
- 2 1/4 pound ground chuck patties (minimum 20% fat content)
- 2 slices american cheese
- 2 onion slices
- 2 tomato slices
- Iceberg lettuce leafs (not shredded)
- Special sauce (see recipe above)
Whatcha Do:

FOR THE SAUCE: Mix all these ingredients in a bowl, cover, let sit in the fridge for a couple hours to let the flavors bind together.

FOR THE BURGER: If you do not have a griddle, use a heavy, cast iron skillet in which to cook your beef patties. Cook the patties about 2-minutes on each side, flipping only once. During the last minuted of cooking, add one slice of cheese to each patty to melt.
To Assemble:
- Place special sauce on the bottom bun
- Place tomato slice on top of special sauce
- Place lettuce on top of tomato
- Place beef patty with American cheese on top of tomato
- Place onion slice on top of first beef patty
- Place second beef patty with American cheese on top of onion
- Place top bun on the 2nd beef patty
